Turn away, Crimson Tide fans: There’s one major statistic where conference champion and national number-one Alabama isn’t faring very well. At all.
Alabama ranks outside the top 100 in the Football Bowl Subdivision in team sacks, a precipitous plunge
for a team that harassed quarterbacks to no end last year.
The current ranking, after four weeks: tied for 105th.
The NCAA ranks team sacks based on the average number of sacks per game, so the Tide’s 105th-place standing is calculated from the team’s 1.25 sacks per game rather than the gross total of five sacks.
Still, any way you look at it, it’s not very good.
