The Tide opened spring football Friday with Holcombe (6 feet 4, 223 pounds) working at inside linebacker. That night, he was playing left field in a loss to Houston.
Holcombe was drafted in the 37th round of the MLB draft coming out of Tuscaloosa (Ala.) Hillcrest in 2014. He played mostly on special teams in 2015 and blocked a punt for a safety in the SEC championship came win over Florida.
He is hitting .345 for the baseball team and has started nine games in the outfield.
He (or his coaches) have a choice to make later this month.
