The University of Alabama basketball team missed a last chance to tie or win its game on Saturday -- but the problem was the final five minutes, not just the final possession.
Retin Obasohan missed two short driving attempts, both well-defended by LSU, in the final 20 seconds as the Crimson Tide fell 72-70 before a sellout crowd. But UA struggled on offense for most of the final five minutes and also saw LSU capitalize on some defensive breakdowns.
LSU, which had trailed by six points, 60-54, with 9:56 remaining, took a 72-70 lead when Tim Quarterman missed a layup but followed his miss with a putback bucket at the 33-second mark.
