Alabama defense handles CSU's option just fine

The University of Alabama defense had a tricky assignment Saturday in stopping the Charleston Southern option.

The Buccaneers ran a form of the triple option out of the shotgun. On option plays, the quarterback would read the defense and decide whether to hand it off up the middle or take it down the line. If he didn’t go for the up-the-middle handoff, he would have to determine whether to keep the ball or pitch it to the other back.

The UA defense hadn’t seen this sort of option attack in a while, but it handled Charleston Southern well.
