Kool-Aid McKinstry turned in a solid freshman season in 2021 for Alabama football.
He earned Freshman All-SEC honors as a cornerback, posting 25 tackles, one tackle for loss, one sack, an interception, and a pass breakup. McKinstry recorded his first interception against Mercer at Bryant-Denny Stadium and made critical plays versus Auburn in the Iron Bowl.
The 6-foot-1, 188-pounder played 15 games — including five starts in matchups against Mercer, Auburn, Georgia, Cincinnati, and the Bulldogs again. He’s been training with former Crimson Tide safety Justin Woodall on the details at the defensive back position. McKinstry is in a competition versus Khyree Jackson, Terrion Arnold, and Tre’Quon Fegans for the second cornerback spot opposite Eli Ricks.
