Alabama cornerback Saivion Smith was carted off the field in the third quarter of the national championship game Monday night after suffering an apparent leg injury.
Smith was in coverage on Clemson receiver Justyn Ross when he fell down, allowing Ross to get by him and catch a 74-yard touchdown pass from Trevor Lawrence to extend the Tigers' lead to 37-16 midway through the third quarter.
Smith writhed around on the turf as the play continued on without him and was ultimately taken off the field. It wasn't immediately clear what kind of injury he suffered, or the severity of it.
