ESPN’s Jeff Goodman broke the story yesterday but today, Alabama basketball coach Avery Johnson announced he had hired former Providence associate head coach Bob Simon to the Tide staff on Monday. Johnson also announced that he would retain strength and conditioning coach Lou DeNeed from Anthony Grant’s staff.
“We are excited about the addition of coach Bob Simon as associate head coach at the University of Alabama,” Johnson said in a press release from the school. “I first met Bob when he attended one of my coaching chalk talks during my time as an NBA coach and I was immediately impressed with his basketball IQ.
