The University of Alabama could have used Saturday's doubleheader against Mississippi State to climb back above .500 in SEC play and keep pace in a knotted competition for second place in the division.
But a split was all Alabama could manage, dropping the weekend series to the No. 3 Bulldogs and leaving the day in fifth place in the SEC West. After an extra-inning 4-3 win in the first game, Alabama lost 2-1 in the series finale.
"On the offensive end, it's kind of one of those where it's a tough league to hit in to begin with," head coach Mitch Gaspard said.
