Alabama baseball loses; spot in SEC tourney on line against Vanderbilt

HOOVER | The Alabama baseball team will play for its berth in the SEC Baseball Tournament Saturday after falling 7-5 to Vanderbilt Friday night at the Hoover Met before 3,515.

The Crimson Tide goes into the final Saturday of the regular season with a half-game lead over Tennessee and Georgia.

The Volunteers and Bulldogs play at noon. If either loses, Alabama will be at the Met next week for the tournament. If each wins, Alabama must beat the No. 7 Commodores (39-16, 20-9 in the SEC) to earn its tourney berth.

Coach Mitch Gaspard has his team thinking about handling its business itself.
