Alabama AD Bill Battle completes cancer treatment, expects to return soon

Alabama athletic director Bill Battle has completed his latest series of treatment for multiple myeloma and expects to return to work soon, the school announced Thursday.

Battle, 74, announced a leave of absence last month to seek treatment for the rare form of cancer, which is “not life-threatening.” He had an autologous stem cell transplant, a transplant using his own stem cells, at Emory University on June 27 and was released on July 8.

Wednesday, Battle, who was diagnosed in April 2014, was approved to return home to Tuscaloosa after spending nearly two weeks in outpatient care with his son, Mike, and his family at their home in Marietta, Ga.
