AJ McCarron plays second quarter in Buffalo Bills' preseason opener

The Buffalo Bills opened their preseason schedule on Thursday night with Nathan Peterman at quarterback, switched to AJ McCarron in the second quarter under center and let rookie Josh Allen finish the game in the second half.

Buffalo traded its starting quarterback of the past three seasons, Tyrod Taylor, to the Cleveland Browns on March 10, signed McCarron as a free agent on March 14 and selected Allen with the seventh choice in the NFL Draft on April 26.

McCarron and Peterman have taken most of the first-team snaps in training camp and had divided all of them in this week's practices, with Allen relegated to running the third-team offense.
