Clemson has turned the college football world's attention back to the redshirt rule, which allows players to retain a year of eligibility if they play in four or fewer games.
On Wednesday, Clemson's Kelly Bryant was the latest to announce intentions to transfer.
The quarterback was 16-2 as the starter for the No. 3-ranked Tigers. However, coach Dabo Swinney named true freshman Trevor Lawrence the starter for Saturday's game against Syracuse.
With the news, a number of SEC coaches were asked about the unintended consequences of the rule Wednesday.
"I think it is a surprise, to be honest," Vanderbilt coach Derek Mason said.
