In Nick Saban’s buttoned-down, prepackaged, media-managed program, you don’t get as refreshing an interview as the one that Tony Brown gave following the 2018 Sugar Bowl beatdown of Clemson in the College Football Playoff Championships.
Whether you went into the game a fan of Crazy Tony or not, after those 12 minutes, you could not help but fall in love with his infectious personality. In a far-ranging interview that covered everything from smack-talking, to shutting out Hunter Renfrow, to Dabo Swinney’s lies, to his nickname, to the unadulterated love he has for his mama, and that outstanding suit she made for him — which he proudly doffs at interview’s end — you just want to bottle whatever essence of Tony Brown is and sprinkle it at midfield before every game.
