The youngsters participating in the Palmer-Williams Group's fifth annual Football and Cheer Athletic Youth Camp on June 23 at Chickasabogue Park in Eight Mile received instruction from a lineup of former college and NFL players. But when they reached the receiver station, the kids got tips from a legend.
David Palmer -- "The Deuce" in Crimson Tide lore -- took charge of the youngsters there.
At Alabama, Palmer played on the 1992 consensus national-championship team. In 1993, he finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting. That season, he became Alabama's first 1,000-yard receiver, gaining 180 more yards catching passes than any previous Alabama player had in one year.
