JACKSONVILLE – “So in Enterprise, Alabama, their main source of income was cotton, and the boll weevil came in and it killed all their cotton crops.”
Jacksonville Jaguars long-snapper Carson Tinker settles into his story with the ease of one he’s told countless times.
“One of the farmers was like, ‘Hey, let’s start growing peanuts,’ and a couple of other guys bought on and the whole town started growing peanuts and it made them one of the most profitable counties in the country.”
Tinker, a former Alabama player, goes on to tell of how Enterprise became one of the largest peanut suppliers in the country and how city fathers placed a statue of the boll weevil in the center of town to say thank you.
