Alabama's first commitment in the class of 2017 is a big one.
Najee Harris, a five-star recruit rated as the No. 16 overall player and No. 2 running back in the 247Sports composite, gave a verbal to the Crimson Tide coaching staff while on a visit to Alabama's A-Day game, AL.com has confirmed.
Harris is from Antioch, Calif., and picked Alabama over several major offers, including Michigan, UCLA and USC.
Tosh Lupoi, Alabama's outside linebackers coach with plenty of west coast ties, was Harris' primary recruiter.
Harris is a 6-foot-3, 200-pound running back.
