After watching the Nos. 2, 3, 4, 8 and 9 teams lose last Saturday, the College Football Playoff Selection Committee burned the midnight oil getting ready to release its third set of rankings of the season Tuesday night.
But there were few real surprises as Alabama remained No. 1, followed by Ohio State, Michigan, and Clemson. There are a couple of things, though, to keep our eye on as we move forward.
* There continues to be a significant debate over Louisville, which is ranked No. 5, behind Clemson. There is point of view that says the Cardinals, with Heisman favorite Lamar Jackson at quarterback, now are a better team than Clemson, which beat Louisville 42-36 on October 1.
