After the 1996 season, Alabama safety Kevin Jackson was named All-American. He would be the last defensive back to receive that honor for twelve years. Then a guy named Saban came to town and changed the Tide secondary culture forever.
In 2008, former walk-on and current Arizona Cardinal Rashad Johnson made AFCA and Rivals.com All-American lists. Thus set off a string of outstanding defensive backs at the Capstone. Two years later, Mark Barron would make the FWAA list followed by a consensus selection the following year.
