Your Alabama Crimson Tide football recruiting news update for November 4th:
Three-star Theodore (AL) running back Lamical Perine has been committed to the Florida Gators since May, but the Alabama Crimson Tide's official offer to him on Tuesday may change everything.
At least, that's how his stepfather, Jimmie Haywood, paints it.
“It’s an honor,” Haywood said, via 247Sports. “(Lamical) was very excited. It’s always an honor to interact with Alabama. It was one his dream schools growing up as a kid. I think Alabama and Florida were pretty much tied as his dream schools growing up.”
Crimson Tide running backs coach Burton Burns came to see Perine play last Friday, but it was head coach Nick Saban who officially extended the offer to him on Tuesday.
“Coach Saban was talking about the depth at the running back position and how it will pretty much be up for grabs next season,” Haywood said. “We pretty much have been paying attention to that anyway this season. We know how Bo (Scarbrough) went down and how Desherrius (Flowers) was ineligible. We’ve been keeping up with Alabama, period.”
When asked how Alabama's offer will affect Haywood's commitment to the Gators, Haywood was extremely honest.
“We’ve all got a good relationship with Florida,” Haywood said. “They’ve been pretty consistent with keeping up and responding to him. They’ve been pretty good to him.
“It’s kind of hard to put Alabama on the back burner because that’s Alabama. It’s like the football capitol. It’s a thought. He’s one hundred percent committed to Florida as of now, but Alabama is Alabama.”
Perine is currently ranked as the #51 running back in the Class of 2016 by 247Sports' Composite Rankings.
