Four-star ATH Devonta Smith (Amite, LA) has the Alabama Crimson Tide as one of his favorites, though he has yet to receive an offer from there.. Smith camped at Alabama this week, and said he enjoyed being around the coaching staff:
“(Camp) went real good, it was a good learning experience for me,” Smith said. “I got to work hard and learn some new stuff. (The coaches are) Still evaluating. I met with Coach (Billy) Napier and Coach (Burton) Burns. Coach Burns always tells me just to keep working hard and I’ll get that offer. I’ve been doing that, so I’m hoping I’ll get an offer soon. Coach Napier has been looking at me since I was a freshman and having me with his top group working out.”
Smith, who is best friends with Alabama commits Josh Perry and Shyheim Carter, says that while he really wants an offer from the Tide, that doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll commit right away.
“Them being committed doesn’t have anything to do with my decision,” Smith said. “It’s my decision, and it’ll be based off what kind of offense the team that I commit to runs. While they don’t have anything to do with my decision, I would like to play where they are playing at.”
The 6'1", 155-pounder is rated the No. 8 athlete and the No. 53 overall player in the country for the Class of 2017.
