AKRON, Ohio — The University of Akron women's tennis team finished the weekend strong with a 5-2 victory over Youngstown State on Saturday night at the LaTuchie Tennis Center.
UA (3-0) took all three doubles matches against the Penguins while claiming the first four matches in singles play.
Sophomore Sophia Geier (Burgebrach, Germany) defeated Annina Brendel 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 1 spot while Ariadna Blinova bested Dominika Lackova, 7-6 (5), 6-3 in No. 2 singles. Juniors Karalina Maksimava (Mogilev, Belarus) and Shannon Newnes (Romford, London) also both beat their respective opponents in singles action.
