KENT, Ohio -- Kato Nelson completed a pass to Andre Williams for an 8-yard score in overtime and Akron's defense stopped a 2-point conversion as the Zips beat Kent State 24-23 on a rainy Saturday to keep the wooden Wagon Wheel trophy for the fourth straight year.
Kent State had the ball second in the extra session and Justin Rankin connected with Woody Barrett from 29 yards out, but a low snap was botched on the 2-point conversion attempt -- ending the game.
Nelson threw for 219 yards with one touchdown and one interception for Akron (3-3).
