YPSILANTI, Mich.- Freshman southpaw Lexie Handley (Mogadore, Ohio) threw her first career no hitter as the Akron Zips softball team won its third Mid-American Conference game with a 9-0 shutout at Eastern Michigan on Sunday afternoon at Varsity Field.
The Zips improved to 14-18 overall and 3-3 in MAC play, while the Eagles fell to 13-17 and 2-4 in MAC play.
"I am so happy for our team and the great performances by Lexie and Kelly," said head coach Julie Jones. "We came out with energy and fire and put the ball in play hard all day, wasting no time to warm up the bats.
