Youngstown, Ohio – The Akron Zips men's basketball team opened the 2016-17 season with a 90-82 setback to Youngstown State during the second game of the Northeast Ohio Coaches vs. Cancer Basketball Doubleheader at the Beeghly Center on Saturday evening.
YSU snapped a six-game losing skid against the Zips, outscoring Akron 54-41 in the second half to improve to 23-22 at home against UA. Akron holds the all-time series advantage 57-32, and it was only the fifth time the Zips (0-1) dropped a season opener under 13th year head coach Keith Dambrot.
