AKRON, Ohio -- The sixth seeded Akron softball team concluded the 2016 season in the third round of the 2016 Mid-American Conference tournament at Firestone Stadium in Akron, Ohio. The Zips squad competed in three contests in their post season run going 1-2 falling to No. 3 seeded Ohio, 3-1, defeated No. 7 Toledo, 7-0, and dropped its final game to No. 1 Kent State, 13-6.
Akron returned 10 letterwinners from the 2015 team including five starters and welcomed in 10 newcomers to the roster made up of five true freshman and five junior college transfers.
Led by tenth-year head coach, Julie Jones, Akron ended the year with the teams best record since 2009 with a 30-25-1 overall record and finished in sixth place in the MAC (fourth in MAC East) with a 11-10-1 record in MAC play.
