Why Lamar Jackson's Heisman run is different from Geno Smith's

Lousville quarterback Lamar Jackson has gotten nearly all the Heisman attention through three weeks this season, drawing a few comparisons to the early-season chatter that centered on West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith in 2012.

Their September numbers are comparable in many ways, with nearly identical average yards per game (457 for Smith, 459 for Jackson) and touchdown totals (Smith had 21; Jackson has 18 with one more September game to go). Both had eight-touchdown games (Smith vs. Baylor; Jackson vs. Charlotte).

Their rise is comparable, too.
