Virginia Tech's downturn started with 2011 class

Virginia Tech has not won the Coastal since 2011, struggling through mediocrity over the last four seasons.

How much of a role did the 2011 signing class have in the downturn? While it would be foolish to pin all the problems on one class, the 2011 group never quite panned out. First, consider that the 2011 class ranked No. 10 among ACC schools, its lowest spot since 2006.

Virginia Tech only signed one ESPN 150 prospect and just two four-stars that year, somewhat odd considering the success the Hokies previously had on the recruiting trail. From 2006-09, Virginia Tech had three top-20 classes.
