Virginia Tech embarks on a new era when the season kicks off, as Justin Fuente takes over for long-time coach Frank Beamer, who retired in 2015 after 29 seasons with the Hokies. The transition has been relatively smooth, and that has been by design. Fuente has embraced the foundation Beamer set, while also trying to put his own stamp on the program. Though Fuente kept defensive coordinator Bud Foster on the coaching stuff, much will be different about this team, starting with the offense. Will a new scheme and new head coach be enough for the Hokies to contend for the Coastal Division again?
