Virginia Tech coaches considered fining players for disciplinary issues with money potentially coming from their new cost-of-attendance allotment, but the school quickly backtracked with athletics director Whit Babcock saying such fines would immediately be removed from the players' handbook.

Defensive coordinator Bud Foster told reporters at Wednesday's practice that Virginia Tech would explore withholding cost-of-attendance funds from players as a fine for disciplinary issues rather than, for example, having players run laps early in the morning.
