When the voting had ended at the ACC athletic director meetings last week in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, UNC AD Bubba Cunningham was asked if the league might revisit the debate on scheduling.
“Well,” Cunningham laughed, “we’ve only done it six or seven times so far.”
Yes, the debate over a nine-game conference slate has been argued for a while, and Cunningham was hardly the only AD happy to put it to bed. Shifting positions and competing agendas aren't new for the league, but the vote to essentially maintain status quo on scheduling was indicative of a bigger shift in the direction of the conference.
