There may not be a more goose bump-inducing entrance in college football than when “Enter Sandman” blares through the speakers as Virginia Tech takes the field at Lane Stadium, and it’s been a fixture since 2000.
But as fixtures at Virginia Tech go, the Metallica song is relatively new compared with the man who’s graced the Hokies sideline since 1987, and so the band offered a special message to Frank Beamer before his final home game Saturday.
Before the first notes of “Enter Sandman” began, the video board at Lane Stadium played the recorded message from the band in which lead singer James Hetfield, drummer Lars Ulrich and bassist Robert Trujillo offered congratulations to Beamer and implored the crowd to get excited for one last victory.
