Mark Richt excited about young additions on offensive line

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The rule of thumb has always been that offensive linemen take the longest to develop, and if a freshman is starting, that’s a big problem.

But look at the two-time defending ACC champs. Two years ago, it was Mitch Hyatt starting every game at left tackle as the Clemson Tigers ran through the league without a loss. Last season, both John Simpson and Sean Pollard saw significant action. All were true freshmen.

So, is it such a bad thing if your youngest linemen are already among your five best?
