Lamar Jackson is the headliner on the Louisville offense, but it could be the offensive line that holds the key to the season.
The reason is simple enough: The Cards have struggled up front, allowing 41 sacks in both 2014 and 2015. Last year, coach Bobby Petrino was faced with a first in his coaching history: three freshmen starters on the offensive line, including true freshmen Geron Christian and Kenny Thomas.
“I don’t sleep well with that,” Petrino said.
The last time Petrino started a true freshman was when he was offensive coordinator at Auburn in 2002, playing Marcus McNeill (he ended up starting 28 games and becoming a first-round NFL pick).
