CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The fans were drenched, but it didn’t matter. The contingent of Virginia Tech faithful — maybe 300 in the far corner of the stands near the Hokies’ tunnel, clad in ponchos as the remnants of Hurricane Matthew still pelted the stadium — roared their approval, slapped high-fives with players and then, when they saw their first-year head coach, shouted his name in unison: “Jus-tin! Jus-tin!”

Justin Fuente stood on the edge of the east end zone at Kenan Stadium and soaked it all in. This was one of those moments he’d imagined when he accepted the job of rebuilding Virginia Tech, and here he was, five games into the job, and already there was reason to celebrate.
