TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- It’s the biggest source of frustration surrounding Florida State football the past three seasons. Why are the Seminoles struggling to piece together a championship-caliber offensive line?
Last season, Florida State allotted nearly a quarter of its 85 scholarships to offensive linemen. Of the 19, eight were nationally ranked recruits. Yet, the Seminoles were 52nd among Power 5 teams in sack percentage. They were 21st in yards before contact on non-sack rushes.
This fall brings a slate that includes three teams that finished in the top five nationally in sacks and five schools that finished in the top 10 among Power 5 schools in defensive yards per rush play.
