MIAMI -- Florida State’s Charles Kelly heard the criticism of his defense throughout the 2016 season, and, he says frankly, at times he couldn’t help but agree.
“When you don’t play good, people are going to say you don’t play good,” Kelly said Tuesday morning from South Florida where his team is getting ready to play Michigan in the Capital One Orange Bowl. “That’s an observation. There’s nothing wrong with that. As a coach and a player your job is to get better and be productive.”
The second-year defensive coordinator is hoping growing pains in the first two months of the season will provide dividends moving forward for a group that returns the overwhelming majority of its starters next season.
