It was the strangest play in Week 7: Officials in the Wake Forest-North Carolina game nullified Ryan Switzer's 70-yard punt return for a score because they believed he signaled for a fair catch.
Replays showed all Switzer did was put his right hand to his chest before he caught the ball. Afterward, coach Larry Fedora said, "The referee said he saw a fair catch. I mean, what are you going to say?"
The ACC weighed in on the matter Monday, saying its officials did make the correct call when the play was whistled dead because Switzer gave an "invalid signal," citing NCAA rule 6-5 3(b).
