A brief history of the Pitt Script

Pitt fans were pleasantly surprised to see the Panthers return the old “Pitt Script” logos to their helmets last year against Georgia Tech. New athletic director Scott Barnes further endeared himself to his new constituency when he later said that the school would implement that logo across its athletic department by the next school year, 2016-17.

Dave Caldwell of The New York Times has a nice lookback at how that logo came to me, and why Pitt fans felt such a connection to it over the years.

From Caldwell:

When (Johnny) Majors arrived on campus from Iowa State, taking over a team that had won only one of 11 games the year before, he decided to give the program a makeover in every way.
