The No. 11 seeded Wichita State Shockers didn't just upset the No. 6 seeded Arizona Wildcats, they blew them out. The Shockers led by as many as 24 and held on for a 65-55 win Thursday.
Arizona cut the lead to 13 with about eight minutes to play thanks to an 11-0 run, but it was too little, too late. Another run cut the lead to nine with 1:30 to play, but the Wildcats couldn't complete the comeback.
Wichita State pretty much dominated in every facet of the game. They turned the ball over just three times, while Arizona coughed it up 6 times. The Wildcats shot just 35.5 percent from the floor, far below the Shockers' 44.7 percent.
As they often do, Ron Baker and Fred VanLeet led the way early for the Shockers. They put up 13 and 16 points, respectively.
The Shockers, who won a play-in game over Vanderbilt by 20, will now face Miami (FL) Saturday. The No. 3 seeded Hurricanes beat Buffalo earlier Thursday.
