Kansas State jumped out on West Virginia early and took a 17-3 lead into halftime, yet the Mountaineers responded in the second half. They cut the lead to six midway through the fourth quarter, but the Wildcats kicked a field goal with less than three minutes to play to preserve the victory.
Turning Point:
West Virginia was threatening to cut K-State's lead to six with a long drive to start the fourth quarter, but the Mountaineers failed to convert on fourth down and turned the ball over. The Wildcats scored on the ensuing drive, creating a lead that was too big for WVU to overcome.
Key Stat:
Kansas State forced four WVU turnovers, which halted numerous drives and didn't allow the Mountaineers to gain any sort of momentum.
Kansas State MVP:
Wide receiver Tyler Lockett showed once again why he's considered to be one of the best in the country. He caught 10 passes for 196 yards, accounting for the large majority of K-State's offense. Lockett also returned a punt 43 yards for a touchdown.
West Virginia MVP:
Backup quarterback Skyler Howard came in for the injured Clint Trickett in the third quarter, and almost pulled off a dramatic comeback victory. He completed 15/23 passes for 198 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions.
