Redskins News: No Fracture For RGIII, Gruden Optimistic About Return This Season

In this Redskins news and rumors update, Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden confirmed on Monday that an MRI revealed no fracture in QB Robert Griffin III's injured ankle.

Per Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com, Gruden also indicated that he is optimistic about a potential return for RGIII later on this season.

"I think it's too early to tell as far as the timetable is concerned," Gruden said via Rosenthal's article on Monday. "All we know is it's not a fracture, we're gonna put the cast on it for a couple weeks, get more results to Dr. Anderson, see what he says and go from there."

There is no clear timetable for Griffin's return, but this still comes as extremely positive news going forward for the team this season. Gruden is still remaining mums about whether he would bench Kirk Cousins upon RGIII's return, especially if Cousins lights it up in his relieving role.

For now, however, the focus remains on getting Griffin as healthy as possible as soon as possible.
