In this Redskins news and rumors update, new Washington Redskins starting QB Kirk Cousins proclaimed that "this is Robert's team," after he stepped in for the injured RGIII and led the Redskins to a convincing victory on Sunday.
However, it might not be that way for long.
According to Michael David Smith of NBC's Pro Football Talk, "coach Jay Gruden was asked today if Cousins could play well enough in the coming weeks to hold onto the starting job even after Griffin’s dislocated ankle has healed well enough for him to play. Gruden declined to give a definitive answer."
In fact, Gruden was downright coy about it.
“We’ll cross that bridge when that comes. Right now we’re going to prepare with Kirk Cousins as our starter, and Robert’s going to rehab. All decisions after that will come after that,” he said, via Smith's post on Monday.
If Cousins continues to put together performances like his one against the Jacksonville Jaguars (22-of-33, 250 yards, 2 TDs, 0 INTs), that will be a mighty interesting bridge to cross when RGIII is healthy.
