We're less than three weeks away from the 2015 MLB trade deadline, which means there are plenty of rumors swirling around the Washington Nationals and what they might do on the trade market. With that being said, here's the last in our Nationals Trade Rumors Roundup For July 11th.
Nats have an eye on Arizona's middle infield
The Nats and their scouting department have been analyzing and evaluation the Arizona Diamondbacks' wealth of middle infield options, according to Jon Morosi of Fox Sports.
Chris Owings, Nick Ahmed and Cliff Pennington can all play both shortstop or second base, and all three of them could be trade chips for the Diamondbacks by the time July 31st rolls around.
Washington a player for Ben Zobrist?
Nationals scouts have reportedly been hot on the trail of the Oakland Athletics in recent months, according to the aforementioned Morosi, who added that Washington has been linked to Ben Zobrist recently as a potential trade target.
While there is nothing concrete to report on the Zobrist front, his ability to find multiple ways to get on base and his flexibility as an option at multiple positions should be enough for the Nats to consider him on a rental.
Nationals may not be willing to add payroll
Per FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, Nats ownership doesn't want to put themselves into a similar situation as they did last year when they placed themselves on the hook for the $3.3 million left on Asdrubal Cabrera‘s contract -- a deal that didn't pan out production-wise for the squad.
That doesn't mean Washington won't add payroll for the right fit. However, they'll be a lot more cautious with the Cabrera experience fresh on their minds.
