The Washington Nationals today recalled from rehab and reinstated outfielder Rick Ankiel from the 15-Day Disabled List and placed infielder/outfielder Jerry Hairston Jr. (right wrist fracture) on the 15-Day Disabled List, retroactive to June 30. Nationals Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.
Ankiel missed the last 14 games after being placed on the DL on June 19, retroactive to June 15, with a left intercostal strain. The 31-year-old is batting .204 with 15 runs scored, eight doubles, one home run, nine RBI, 14 walks and seven stolen bases in 48 games this season with the Nationals.
In three games during his rehab assignment with Syracuse of the Triple-A International League and the Nationals' Gulf Coast League affiliate, Ankiel went 2-for-9 with two runs scored, one double, two walks and one stolen base.
Hairston Jr., 35, is batting .260 with 21 runs scored, 10 doubles, one triple, two home runs, 17 RBI, 20 walks and two stolen bases in 69 games with Washington.
