Is the Washington Nationals skipping over pitcher Jordan Zimmermann in the rotation a smart move? The team has decided to skip over him because of the postponement of their game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Zimmermann is not hurt and has been pitching well as of late, but the team wants to be careful with his innings because this is his first full MLB season since his Tommy John surgery.
I like this cautious approach the Nats are taking with him and feel it's the right move for them to make. Zimmermann has pitched 48 innings this season and in his last start against the Atlanta Braves he struck out a career best 11 batters, but had to settle for a no decision after the bullpen blew the lead he handed them.
