I hate to say it, but I believe that Jason Marquis will not be a Washington Nationals player past the upcoming MLB Trade Deadline. He has pitched well by going 5-1 with a 4.08 ERA this season after an injury plagued 2010 in which he was 2-9 with a 6.60 ERA.
Marquis has been a pleasant surprise this year because nobody knew how he would rebound coming off last season, but at 32 years old and with free agency coming, he isn't part of the future. The Nationals are loaded with young arms all throughout their farm system and a couple of them will likely get called up later this season.
This happens every year all over the league with teams trading off veterans to contending teams wanting to make a run at a postseason berth. If Marquis continues to pitch well there will be plenty of suitors and the New York Yankees come to mind right off the bat as a team in need of pitching help, but they won't be the only one that's for sure.
