The Washington Capitals' 3-0 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday was much sweeter than just a normal regular-season victory for former Pen Matt Niskanen.
“It felt nice,” said Niskanen, who played with Pittsburgh from 2011 through last season. “A lot of guys I respect on their team and am pretty good friends with that I don’t talk to much anymore, so it feels good to beat them, that’s for sure.”
Along with Braden Holtby's stellar performance in goal for the Caps, it was Eric Fehr's two goals which proved the difference in Saturday's huge Metropolitan Division showdown.
“It’s really big for us,” Fehr said of the win. The Capitals now sit tie with the Rangers for third place in the division as they look to pull themselves out of the wild card muck in the Eastern Conference.
With more performances like Saturday's, they might not have to worry about the wild card for much longer.
