The Calgary Flames reportedly may consider moving top forward Jiri Hudler this offseason, with the Washington Capitals emerging as a potential trade fit if they do decided to move him.
If so, Karl Alzner could be one of the key Caps pieces shipped off to Canada in the exchange
Via Bleacher Report:
Hudler tallied a career-best 76 points this season and would be a good fit on the Capitals’ top line. He’s a free agent next summer and could prove an expensive re-signing for the Flames. Alzner could fill the Flames’ need for a rugged stay-at-home defender at an affordable salary. The Capitals can sweeten the deal by adding a promising young player or prospect.
Hudler carries a cap hit of $4 million for the 2015-16 NHL season. He could amount to nothing more than a rental, though, as he is slated to hit unrestricted free agency in the summer of 2016.
Alzner is on the hook for just over $2.5 million next season and will also hit unrestricted free agency next summer.
