The Washington Capitals might be without defenseman Brooks Orpik for the 2015 NHL Winter Classic after he left Monday night's overtime loss to the New York Islanders with an apparent knee injury.
Orpik was injured while going to check on Cal Clutterbuck. As he made contact, Orpik's leg drove into Clutterbuck's and buckled as Orpik's skate dug into the ice.
The 34-year-old blueliner is doubtful for the Winter Classic as a result according to NHL.com's Dan Rosen. Orpik will be a game-time decision. He has eight assists so far this season for Washington.
The Winter Classic between the Washington Capitals and Chicago Blackhawks will be held at Nationals Park on New Year's Day.
