The Washington Capitals have six key players headed for unrestricted (4) or restricted free agency (2) at the conclusion of the 2014-15 NHL season, but none more integral to the team's recent success than goaltender Braden Holtby.
Headed to unrestricted free agency at the end of his current two-year, $3.7 million contract, the 25-year-old is making no bones about how he wants his foray into the market to play out this coming summer.

“That’s not even a question,” said Holtby, via the Washington Post. “I’d like to stay here for my whole career if I could. No reason for me to leave. If they want me here. I like the city, I like the team. I’m not fussy. If I’m playing hockey, I’m enjoying it.”
Holtby has undoubtedly made the jump from a goalie with potential to a guy who can stand on his head and steal games for the Caps, and Washington appears ready to fork over a lucrative extension to the young netminder as a reward.
If so, this has all the makings of a beautiful partnership for years to come.
